A security type refers to the method used when Exness account ownership is required to complete specific actions.
Actions that require account verification include, but are not limited to:
- Changing your Personal Area password
- Restoring your Personal Area password
- Changing your security type
- Changing partner
- Withdrawing funds
- Changing trading password
- Setting and changing read-only access password
Choosing a convenient security type is a highly recommended step to take for your Exness account’s safety, as it mitigates the risk of unauthorized account access.
Available security types
The available security types, their descriptions, and links to detailed steps on how to switch between each is presented below.

Changing security types

If you lost access to your current security type, you can change your security type using one of two methods, depending on your situation.
Withdrawal actions from any trading accounts in your Personal Area become disabled for 24 hours in case the security type is changed via face scan, or 3 business days if it's changed by support.
You can reset your security type to email directly from your Personal Area without contacting Support. Read an article about face scan verification to change security type.
This option is available if:
- You’ve lost access to your registered phone number or mobile device.
- Your current security type is phone number, TOTP, or push notification.
- You have a verified email, phone number, and proof of identity.
During this process, you’ll need to complete a face scan to confirm your identity. Once reset, your security type will be set to email. You can then choose a new security type if you wish.
Withdrawals from any trading accounts in your Personal Area will be disabled for 24 hours after a security type is changed.
If you’ve lost access to your current security type (such as a phone number or authentication app), you can request a security type change by opening a ticket from the support hub.
