MetaTrader 5 (MT5) platform is available for your Windows desktop, Android and iOS mobile devices. This article describes how to use MT5 with your preferred device.
Before installing MT5 on your preferred device, learn where to find your trading account login and server in your Personal Area (PA).

Install MT5
- Download the MT5 installation file.
- Run the file from your browser or double-click the installation file from where it was downloaded.
- You can modify where you install MT5 by clicking Settings for your preferences, or simply click Next to agree to the End-User License Agreement and continue.
- When the installation is complete, click Finish and it will open MT5 automatically.
- For your first log-in: close the window titled “Open an account” by clicking Cancel.
Log in
- Click File > Login to Trade Account.
- Enter your trading account’s Login, Password, and Server then click Login.
- This information is in your Exness Personal Area. Under “My Accounts”, click the 3-dot icon next to the trading account of choice, and select Account Information for the MT5 Login and Server. Your password is the same as set in the PA.
- If successful, you will hear a confirmation chime. You have now logged into MT5 with your trading account.
Note: For MT5 default accounts created during Exness registration, your Personal Area password can be used to log into that trading account. It is recommended that you change your default trading password as soon as you can.
Switching accounts
- While logged into your trading account, click File > Login to Trade Account.
- Sign in with your other trading account’s number, password, and corresponding server; then click OK. You can make switching quicker next time by ticking Save password.
Quick switching
You can switch between active trading accounts by going to File > Login to Trade Account - use the drop-down menu in the Login entry to choose any previously logged-in trading accounts.
Add and remove instruments
To add:
- Right-click on the Market Watch window.
- Select Symbols.
- Select from the list of symbol groups displayed.
- Double-click on an instrument to add them to Market Watch and click OK.
To remove:
- Right-click on an instrument in Market Watch.
- Click Hide.
Opening orders
There are 4 ways to open a new order:
- Click New Order in the toolbar.
- Click F9 on your keyboard.
- In the Market Watch window, right-click on the trading instrument you want to trade and click New Order.
- Double-click the trading instrument in the Market Watch window.
These methods open the New Order window.
- From the New Order window, select your preferred symbol and volume, as well as the optional Stop Loss and Take Profit levels.
Note: For Pro accounts, you can choose the execution type when the account is opened. You can choose between Market execution or Instant execution. Market execution is now available for 6 account currencies; USD, JPY, THB, CNY, IDR, VND.
- Click Sell by Market or Buy by Market to place the order.
Closing orders
There are multiple ways to close an order:
- Double-click the order you want to close in the Trade tab (in the Terminal area), then click the yellow Close By Market button.
- Right-click your order in the Trade tab, select Close Order, and confirm it. With One-Click Trading active, the order closes when Close Order is selected.
- Click the X on the right of the order in the Trade tab; this closes the order instantly with One-Click Trading active.
Use any of these methods to close orders.
Partially closing orders
- Double-click on an order in the Trade tab to open the Order window.
- Enter the volume size you want to close in the volume cell.
- Click Close.
Full Close by
To fully or partially close a hedged order:
- Double-click on either hedged order in the Trade tab to open the Order window.
- Under Type, select Close By, and then select the order in the area that has appeared.
- Click the yellow Close button.
- The hedged orders are now closed.
Bulk close
This feature allows you to close multiple orders simultaneously.
- Click on the Trade tab and right-click on any of the open positions then select Bulk Operations. You will see a list of options to bulk close orders:
- Close All Positions: Closes all open positions for all instruments.
- Close Profitable Positions: Closes all positions in profit.
- Close Losing Positions: Closes all positions in loss.
- Close Sell/Buy Positions: Closes all positions with the same order type only.
- Close “Symbol” Positions: Closes all positions for the same symbol/instrument only.
- Close “Type” “Symbol” Positions: Closes all positions with the same order type for the same symbol/instrument only.
- Close by “Symbol”: Closes hedged positions for the same symbol/instrument using the Close By function.
Note: When a bulk close order is performed, the server will execute orders one by one, which may take a few milliseconds between each order.
Pending orders
There are 6 pending order types to choose from in MT5 (Buy Limit, Sell Limit, Buy Stop, Sell Stop, Buy Stop Limit, and Sell Stop Limit). To close a position you can use Stop Loss and Take Profit.
- Click the New Order icon in the toolbar on the top or click Tools > New Order.
- Select the Symbol, set the Volume, and specify your pending order Type.
- Set your desired Price, Take Profit, Stop Loss levels, and Expiration. Note that setting up Take Profit, Stop Loss, and Expiration is optional.
- Click Place to set up your pending order.
Note: If you choose an expiry date that falls during a weekend, your order will expire before the market closes at the end of the current week.
Modify or delete pending orders
- Right-click on the pending order in the Trade tab and click Modify or Delete.
- To modify: amend the Price, Stop Loss, Take Profit, and Expiration date, and click Modify.
- To delete: click on the Delete option.
Note: Please follow Stop Levels when setting up Pending orders (including SL and TP).

Download and log into MT5
- Download the MT5 app from the Exness website.
- Open MT5 and select Manage Accounts from the main menu.
- Tap the + icon and select Login to an existing account.
- Enter “Exness Technologies Ltd” and then select the trading server appropriate for your trading account.
- Enter your trading account number and trading account password, then tap Sign In.
- The trading account is added to the Accounts tab.
Note: For clients registered with Exness (KE) Limited (our Kenyan entity), please enter Exness (KE) Limited as the server name.
Add trading accounts
- Tap Settings in the left upper corner and select Manage Accounts.
- Tap the + icon and select Login to an existing account.
- Enter Exness into the company or server name search and select Exness-Server.
- Enter your trading account’s number, trading account password, and the correct server, then tap Login.
- The trading account is added to the Accounts tab.
Switching accounts
- Select Manage Accounts from the main menu.
- Tap the trading account you wish to make active in the Accounts tab, enter the trading account’s credentials if prompted, and then Sign In.
- MT5 will now be logged in with that trading account.
Add, remove, and reorder instruments
- Click on Quotes.
- Click on the + icon, and then locate the instrument from the groups presented.
- Tap on any instruments you want to add, and they will be added to the list presented in Quotes.
To reorder:
- Tap the pencil icon to open the edit function where you can move instruments to reorder them.
To remove:
- Tap the bin icon to activate the delete function.
- Select the instruments using the two-tick icon, or tap on individual instruments to select them.
- Tap the bin icon one more time to confirm the removal.
Opening orders
- Go to Quotes.
- Tap the symbol you want to trade and then tap New Order.
- Set your order parameters (i.e. Stop Loss, Take Profit, etc.).
- Tap Buy or Sell to open a Market order.
- Tap Place. You will then receive a notification that the order has been opened successfully.
Pending orders
- Locate the New Order option.
- Tap on the execution type displayed and select a pending order.
- Set up the following parameters:
- Order Volume
- Price for the pending order (you will need to set up an additional price for Buy Stop Limit and Sell Stop Limit)
- Stop Loss (optional)
- Take Profit (optional)
Note: In the New Order window, the dropdown menu on the icon at the top-right corner will list all the instruments added to your Quotes tab; pick an instrument to place a pending order.
Close or modify orders
- Go to Trade.
- Tap an order to see its details (Price, S/L, T/P, order ID, etc.).
- Press and hold the order.
To modify:
- Tap Modify position.
- Change the order parameters and Tap Modify once done.
To close:
- Tap Close position.
- Tap Close with Loss/Profit to confirm the appropriate action.
- You will receive a notification when the order is closed.
Opening Journal
- Go to Journal in the top left menu.
- Select the dates and tap the letter icon to send it via email. Make sure you change the recipient to support@exness.com
Opening News
- Go to News in the top left menu.
- View the latest economic news from FXStreet. You can also tap each individual item to open up the full article in detail.

Download and log into MT5
- Download the MT5 app from the Exness website.

- Open MT5 and go to Settings.
- Tap the arrow next to the account displayed at the top of the page. You will find all the accounts logged into the app.
- Tap on any account to log in.
- MT5 will now be logged in with that trading account.
Add, remove, and reorder instruments
To add:
- Go to Quotes.
- Tap on the search bar to open the list of all the groups of instruments available for trading.
- Tap the + icon beside the instrument you want to add and it will be added to your Quotes list.
To remove:
- Tap the pencil icon and select the instruments to remove.
- Tap the bin icon.
To reorder:
- Tap the icon on the extreme right of the instrument.
- Drag the instrument as per your choice.
Opening orders
- Go to Quotes.
- Tap the instrument you want to trade, then tap Trade.
- Set your order parameters (i.e. Volume, Stop Loss, Take profit, etc.)
- Tap Buy or Sell.
Pending orders
- Locate the Trade option.
- Tap on the execution type displayed and select a pending order.
- After you have selected a pending order, set up the following parameters:
- Order Volume
- Price for the pending order (you will need to set up an additional price for Buy Stop Limit and Sell Stop Limit)
- Stop Loss (optional)
- Take Profit (optional)
- Expiration
Note: In the New Order window, the dropdown menu on the icon at the top-right corner will list all the instruments added to your Quotes tab. You can pick an instrument to place a pending order.
Close or modify orders
- Go to Trade.
- Tap an order to see its details (Price, Stop Loss, Take Profit, order ID, etc.).
To modify:
- Tap Modify position and set up your desired parameters (Stop Loss and Take Profit).
To close:
- If you want to close the order, tap Close position.
- Verify the price and hit Close.
- You will receive a notification that the order has been closed.
Opening Journal
- Go to Settings.
- Select Journal to be shown a log of your session’s activities.
Opening News
- Go to Settings.
- Select News to be presented with a selection of articles from FXStreet. You can also tap each individual item to open up the full article in detail.
