Learn how to set and manage your charts on MT4 and MT5 on your desktop device in a way that works best for you. Managing charts on MT4 and MT5 are similar, with minimal differences.
Selecting a chart type
+MT4 and MT5 both offer three chart options, including:
- Bar
- Line
- Candlesticks
You can select a chart type from the menu at the top of your trading platform or right-click on a chart to open these options.
Exploring the chart ribbon
+The chart ribbon menu allows you to access chart features, including:
- Zoom in or out
- Move the chart forward
- Show multiple chart windows in a grid
- Toggle between timeframes
- Switch on objects
- Add text to the chart
Adding indicators
+Indicators help you analyze chart data. Enable an indicator from the indicators list in the chart menu or right-click on a chart to bring up the list. Once enabled, you can delete an indicator by right-clicking on an active indicator and clicking Delete.
Setting chart properties
+To customize your chart with a color scheme, add colors to specific candlesticks, enable the Ask Line and other settings, right-click on the chart, and select Properties.
Saving a chart template
+Once you have explored various chart options and personalized your chart, you can save your chart template by right-clicking on a chart, selecting Templates, then Save Template. You can also set a name for the template.
You can select a saved template by right-clicking on the chart and selecting Load Template.
MT5 exceptions
+Although MT4 and MT5 chart options are almost the same, it is worth mentioning a few additional features that MT5 offers:
- Snap a picture by right-clicking on a chart and selecting Save as a picture.
- More timeframes are available on MT5 than on MT4.
