The authentication app security type makes use of a 3rd party authentication app to generate verification codes whenever account verification is required.
Google Authenticator is the authentication app recommended for this security type, but most 3rd party authentication apps are supported.
Setting up authentication app security type
You may follow the process as shown in your Personal Area (PA) when you select this security type, or follow the steps for your platform below.
iOS

- Tap the App Store icon, to open the App Store.
- Search for Google Authenticator in the search bar. Open the Google Authenticator app (published by Google LLC) from the search results.
- Select the app and tap Get to install. You may need to authenticate the app using your Apple ID, Face ID, or Touch ID.
- Log into your PA, expand Settings, select Security settings then Change under 2-step Verification.
- Choose Authentication app and confirm with Next.
- Scan the QR code with Google Authenticator or manually input the account name and security key to your chosen authentication app. The email address registered to the authentication app must match the Exness registered email, or the verification code may not generate.
- Enter the code shown in your authentication app where prompted in the PA.
- If entered correctly, you will be prompted to verify your account with your current security type.
- If verified successfully, your security type will now be set to the authentication app security type.
Android

- Download the Google Authenticator app from Google Play (use VPN if necessary) or an alternative authentication app from app stores such as:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install Google Authenticator (or alternative app).
- Log into your PA, expand Settings , select Security settings then Change under 2-step Verification.
- Choose Authentication app and confirm with Next.
- Scan the QR code with Google Authenticator or manually input the account name and security key to your chosen authentication app. The email address registered to the authentication app must match the Exness registered email, or the verification code may not generate.
- Enter the code shown in your authentication app where prompted in the PA.
- If entered correctly, you will be prompted to verify your account with your current security type.
- If verified successfully, your security type will now be set to the authentication app security type.
How to scan the QR code using Google Authenticator
The QR code is shown in the PA during setup of this security type, and must be scanned by the authentication app.
How to generate a verification code (TOTP) with Google Authenticator
The verification code, or Timed One-Time Pin (TOTP), is generated for both set up of this security type and account verification purposes when this security type is active.
Changing authentication security type
Only available within the first 30 days of account registration.
- Log into your Personal Area (PA).
- Expand Settings, select Security settings then Change under 2-step Verification.
- Choose Email and confirm with Next.
- Verify your account with your current security type.
- Once verified successfully, your security type will now be set to the email security type.
- Log into your Personal Area (PA).
- Expand Settings, select Security settings then Change under 2-step Verification.
- Choose Phone or New phone number and confirm with Next.
- The new phone number option will additionally ask you to enter a new phone number to continue, but both options will require you to verify your account with your current security type.
- Once verified successfully, your security type is set to the SMS security type.
- Log into your Personal Area (PA).
- Expand Settings, select Security settings then Change under 2-step Verification.
- Choose Push notifications and confirm with Next.
- Scan the QR codes in order to install Exness Trade and enable push notifications respectively (detailed guide available in push notification article).
- Verify your account with your current security type.
- Once verified successfully, your security type will now be set to the push notification security type.
